Next Thursday, January 30, at 8:30 p.m., a concert in tribute to the Mexican pianist Alicia Muñiz will take place in the Sala de Llevant of the Biblioteca de Catalunya.
The Choir of the French Chapel of Barcelona, directed by Cecilia Velázquez, will participate; the singers Karen Gardeazábal (soprano) and Augusto García (bass); pianists Pia Zanca and Carlos Reyes, and the Capella Mexicana string ensemble. The repertoire will be focused on Mexico and musicians close to teacher Alicia Muñiz, such as Rodolfo Halffter and Faustino Velázquez. It will also include pieces by the composer and musicologist Miquel Querol i Gavaldà (1912 – 2022), who was Muñiz’s husband.
Alicia Muñiz is an iconic figure in music in Mexico, where she has been a professor at the National Conservatory and a pioneer in early music research.
She is also closely linked with Catalonia, where she currently resides. After the death of her husband, she donated the Miquel Querol i Gavaldà fund to the Library of Catalonia, following the will expressed by Master Querol. He has recently started donating his personal fund.
Entry is free with limited capacity.
