“Casal del Mestre” exhibition: four decades of pedagogical renewal and commitment to the city"

In 1979, in a city in full social and political effervescence, a group of teachers dreamed of a different school. They did it convinced that education was and is a tool for social transformation, and that a public school, Catalan, democratic and rooted in the environment was needed. This is how the Casal del Mestre de Santa Coloma de Gramenet was born. This space became much more than a pedagogical entity. At a time when it was necessary to rebuild democratic life from all areas, the Casal opted for the renovation of the school, the autonomous organization of the teaching staff, dialogue with families and active participation in the city’s social movements.
