Barcelona’s last cupcake – Teatre Eòlia

The balance between matcha tea and carquinyoli

Three sisters inherit a bakery in the heart of Barcelona. In an attempt to adapt to the new times and make the family business survive, they will start a fight against gentrification and against a family tradition less kind than they remembered. Seeking the balance between matcha and carquinyoli, disagreements will arise that will push them to the limit. The last Magdalena de Barcelona is an imminent dystopia.

We live in a city that is fading: the neighborhoods change face, the streets lose their memory, and what was our home turns, little by little, into a theme park for little ones. This work is born of anxiety. Barcelona’s last cupcakeinvites us to reflect, through comedy, on the current reality of our city.
