Del 24 to 30 November 2026the Musician’s Workshop will recover one of its most emblematic events: the Jazz Week from Barcelona. More than forty years after its first edition, the festival returns with the same essence: live music, encounters between artists and an environment of proximity open to the whole world.
All activities are free and will be held in the hall Musicians Workshop 24 (Calle Cendra, 24, Barcelona), with online booking available soon.
The origins of a mythical date
The Jazz Week nation in 1980 in the Shipyards. The first edition gathered about a thousand people – an unexpected success, partly thanks to an initiative driven by young people passionate about music who managed to falsify a few dozen entries (things of the time). The atmosphere was vibrant, relaxed, with musicians who were starting to stand out and others already established who found in that space a free and fresh way to share their art.
Over time, the festival left behind that initial format and began to be held in clubs and halls in the city, closer to the public and the essence of live jazz. Spaces like El Karma in Plaça Reial, the Sala Màgic in the Ribera neighborhood, the Zeleste on Calle Argenteria, Els 4 Gats, the Artículo 26 hall in Gràcia, Otto Zutz, the Eixample hall or the JazzSí Club were the setting for those nights full of improvisation and musical mestizaje.
That evolution gives rise to a spirit of proximity and exchangewhich now wants to be recovered with the new edition.
Since its inception, the festival has been committed to mix of styles: jazz, flamenco, soul and other genres had room. The last day of each edition was celebrated in the Plaza del Solin a popular party that lasted until 1992.
Over the years, the Week grew and became the European Jazz Showwhich attracted musicians from all over the continent and fostered international exchanges. For almost a decade, it was an authentic jazz fair that connected Barcelona with the European scene.
A new generation takes over
