Exhibition curator Neus Penalba will give an exclusive presentation of the exhibition for MACBA Friends, after which they will be free to visit the show for themselves.

This activity for MACBA Friends is a unique opportunity to explore Mercè Rodoreda’s literary universe from a perspective that highlights her radical ambition. The show offers a transversal reading of Rodoreda’s work by linking some of her recurring motifs with the various ways in which her writing transforms them.

The exhibition space employs the metaphor of a forest to connect the rooms and shape visitors’ interpretations of her work: its roots refer to her influences and life experiences, including the uprooting upheaval of exile; its central trunks are scarred by war and its wounds; its branches engage in dialogue with key figures of Western culture; and its seeds germinate in works created specifically by contemporary visual artists inspired by Rodoreda.

In addition to documentary and original materials from the Mercè Rodoreda Foundationthe exhibition also forges ties with artworks and audiovisual projects from different periods and also includes creations and interventions by artists such as Elia Llach, Mar Arza, Cabo San Roque, Oriol Vilapuig and Carlota Subirósamong others. The selection of newly commissioned projects was overseen by Martí Sales.
