As unlikely and magnetic – Magazine Teatre Barcelona
Rio de Janeiro next to home, yes. But not the folkloric, the tropicalist, the postcard, but the representation of a plural, dynamic, contradictory society, make two unique creators. They visit us Marcela Levi and Lucia Russothe soul of the Improvável producing to which the Flower Market devotes a constellation this February. Its previous fruitful visits to Barcelona have germinated in this intensive to delve a little more to their overflowing and unique world.
They are an extreme, non -diplomatic incarnation of a city and a country that only refers to the green of the jungle, to the ocean blue, to the multicolored carnival, to the yellow of the blood spilled, or to the black of slavery. Unattainable, turbulent, festive. Full of references, some legendary, already call it in case whole worlds. Few opportunities are presented to us closely to contemporary artists of those latitudes, a powerful reason number one to approach the market. The second reason would be to know the daring of a collective that breaks in shape and concept.
Of the three proposals that the market houses these days, to ch ão | grrrround (February 1 and 2) Levi and Russo take the basis of the Tremolo -a musical term that describes the fluctuation in the intensity of a sound, also known as the sound of doubt -along with the dissonance to move the seven performers . Music works as a connector, as a springboard toward emotions; Dance as a visual game, expression of bodies they feel, uncontrollable in their polymorphic. With the movements, sometimes distant from the sound map that surrounds them, it is as if the dancers tremble in a waterfall of sensory surprises. And the music makes us feel and move, jumping through the air. The creators say of their piece that is fragmentary and incomplete, an invitation to that each one contemplates his own imagination. With the proposal they stimulate a tension to function as a stimulating bond. Invite to instability, In the restlessness, in the gap more than the contemplative pleasure.
Bone mutant, Gall, Caetano veloso, Gilberto Gil…, Brazilian musical appointments combine with the voices of Tina Turner, Nina Simone, Beyoncé or Sany pitbulland with the typical sound of the taps of the tap, in a mix of popular songs that cross the dancers in a different piece, both unlikely and magnetic. A piano in the center, someone who touches it and six performers who are involved in the rhythmic or arrhythmically, according to, being carried away by the fluctuations, the suspension or the sounds of drums, fireworks or love letters.
Dancing to transform
Recreating the tension and distension of the body as a metaphor for the society in which they live and create, this is the bone of the piece. Marcela Levi discovered dance at the age of 16, but from the first day he stepped on a study, the box of imagination was opened, which for a shy teenager was like pressing a button on creativity. Worked nine years with Lia Rodrigueshe collaborated with Vera Montero (Both have visited the scenes of Catalonia frequently) until he finally found the space to fly their ideas.
Russo, who was trained in theater and came to the largest dance, believes that the encounter with Levi was crucial. The name of its association, in which training and experimentation are vital, is due to ‘the improbability that the research dance happens in Rio’, they say.
