Art, commitment and denunciation on stage, the RBLS Theater Festival arrives
The RBLS Youth Theater Festival will celebrate the 8 to 23 November his eighth edition with the desire to continue bringing the performing arts closer to the young and adolescent public. The initiative, born in 2017, is defined as a project feminist, LGBTIQ+ i anti-racist which, under the conviction of the transformative and denunciation power of the performing arts, seeks to discover new spaces for young people, with proposals that connect with their interests and concerns, as well as involve them in the processes of scenic creation. This year, the RBLS (abbreviation of REBELS) dedicates its programming to themes linked to the mental healththe sexualitythe genrethe LGBTIQ+ rights i the identity
With the names Mariona Esplugues, La Virgueria or Albert Salazar
The inaugural show in Barcelona will be crazyon November 11 at La Villarroel, a monologue that combines disciplines such as dance and rap with projections and addresses the topic of mental health from a humorous and unfiltered perspective. The protagonist, Marion Espluguesshares her personal story with a taboo-free approach, highlighting experiences with psychiatrists and mental disorders. The same room will host, a day later, The tip of the iceberg from La Virgueriaan immersive show that celebrates female sexuality and breaks with taboos and stereotypes around pleasure, turning it into a form of revolution; and on the 16th and 17th, a function of diamond dust by Pau Coyaa show based on a true case of a false allegation of homophobic assault, with Daphnis Balduz i Albert Salazar as protagonists.
The Tantarantana, another of the festival’s usual venues in the Catalan capital, will host two acts on November 13 and 16 respectively: the blind of the company Urmaha piece explores issues such as fear of the unknown and the emotional and social blindness that prevents change; i The rest of the things of Duetheatrewhich explores the tensions and complexities of personal relationships, drawing an analogy between primal nature and social dynamics.
Participatory proposals and workshops
The RBLS proposes to reach young people by making them part of its own proposals through shows such as the party RBLS All Starswhere non-professional young people aged 16 to 21 will show their talents freely and voluntarily, on the 15th at Espai Jove Fontana; or the classic Micro Open which young people can use freely to express what they want in the lobbies of all the theaters of the festival.
The RBLS Festival Teatre Jove not only offers a varied program of shows, but also makes available to the young public a series of workshops designed to promote emerging talent in various artistic disciplines. One of the workshops is Acting in front of the camerawhich will take place on November 9 at Sala Fènix in Barcelona. Aimed at young people aged 14 to 18, it will be led by the actor and trainer Felipe Cabezas which will teach participants the fundamental techniques to act naturally and expressively in front of the camera. In Granollers, training will be carried out by Joan Grivéan influencer and communicator recognized for his participation in programs like Adolescents iCat i It’s happening. Grivé, also an environmentalist and winner of a Zirkòlika award, where young people will have the opportunity to learn about the digital world, content creation and how to combine humor with social and environmental communication, a growing field within social networks
A commitment to theater as a space for community creation
The festival claims a committed, but also communal theatre, where creation is not an individual matter, but rather a collective one, where several hands and thinking heads are involved. In this sense, RBLS continues for another year with the RBLS TEEN PROJECT. It is a community scenic creation initiative promoted by RBLS and the Fenix room for young people, which involves organizations like The Key (a Sants-Montjuïc public facility for teenagers aged 12 to 16) and other educational entities in the neighbourhood. In this new edition, titled The anti-selfiethe choreographer and dancer Helena Lizariwill make them artistically explore their relationship with their own image and that of others, the look they seek and find when they upload selfies on social networks.
