Anna Guitart appointed new Director of the Ramon Llull Institute – News


Barcelona-born journalist and screenwriter Anna Guitart will take up the post of Director of the Institut Ramon Llull (the Catalan cultural diplomacy body) on 8 January 2026, following the approval of her appointment by the governing board of the consortium on Tuesday. The consortium comprises the Generalitat de Catalunya (the Government of Catalonia), the Government of the Balearic Islands (Government of the Balearic Islands), the Ajuntament de Barcelona (Barcelona City Council) and the Ajuntament de Palma (Palma City Council).

Anna Guitart is a journalist and screenwriter specializing in literature and books. She served as curator for Barcelona’s literary and artistic program as guest of honor at the Guadalajara International Book Fair (FIL). She began her career at Ràdio Barcelona before working on the programme The Republic with Joan Barril on COM Ràdio. She was part of the team behind the documentary Septemberdirected by Carles Bosch. She has worked as a screenwriter on programs including what is it about (Channel 33), The bocamoll (TV3) and via book (Channel 33), and directed the second season of wise (Channel 33). She has presented and directed literary and interview programs, such as the book feature of choose 33 (Channel 33) and All the time in the world (Channel 33). She has contributed to the program Everything moves (TV3), The morning of Catalunya Ràdio and the newspaper nowand has served as editorial advisor for the magazine Yesterday’s world.

The governing board meeting was chaired by Sònia Hernández Almodóvar, Minister of Culture of the Generalitat of Catalonia; Pedro Vidal Monserrat, Secretary for Culture and Sport of the Government of the Balearic Islands; and Xavier Marcé, Councilor for Culture and Creative Industries at the Barcelona City Council.

Anna Guitart will take over as Director of the Institut Ramon Llull following the conclusion of Pere Almeda’s tenure on 7 November. The institute is dedicated to the international promotion of Catalan language and culture.
