"A fascinating tour of the Comic Book. Jorge Gard Collection"

This exhibition proposes a journey in time to remember or discover some of the publications that the American comic book characters and their adventures popular in the mid-twentieth century. The Comic Book was born in the 1930’s in the United States. These are printed publications in a format of Grapat Quadernet, initially made from the comic strips already published in newspapers and other periodicals and, in a few years, incorporated original material. In 2021 the Library of Catalonia received a significant donation from the collector Jorge Gard: about twenty-four thousand copies of more than a thousand Comic Book titles published in Mexico, which he had gathered for forty years. This exhibition is a small sample of the collection and offers a tour of the best known heads, the most charismatic characters and some of the stories that are already part of the collective imagination.
