14/07 – 20h. Puppet work “The Altarpiece of the Pig of Sant Anton”

A company of minstrels present us with a medieval farce, “El Retaule del Porc de Sant Antón”. These itinerant artists, with their puppets, invite us to travel to the Middle Ages to tell us the story of Saint Anthony: he has fallen into one of the temptations of the devil Cojuelo and, as punishment, the devil transforms him into a pig that sins of idolatry. Chaplain Berengena, discovering the sinful pig, decides to remove his sin, and also condemns him to death.

La Cartonera Teatre was born in Barcelona in 2021 due to the meeting of its members at Pepe Otal’s Marionette Workshop. A company that focuses its scenic and aesthetic research on a wide range, ranging from the energies of the work of the physical body, vocal, until the search for the materiality of cardboard, objects and puppets to give life to the scenic forms. In “El retaule del porc de Sant Anton”, his second production, the figure of the minstrels takes center stage. With live music, the work proposes a fun and creative journey to the Middle Ages, where the convent kitchen becomes the pig’s ordeal, the kitchen utensils into weapons and helmets, and the wine into the blood of the Pig and of Christ.
