07/22 – 5 p.m. Visit-workshop to the exhibition of Minor White – FUNDACIÓ KBr

the activity

The visit-workshop is designed so that visitors can get to know the artist’s work in a practical and interactive way. This visit-workshop consists of two hours. The first is a guided tour of the exhibition and the second is the photographic workshop emphasizing the artist’s gaze.

Minor White (Minneapolis, 1908-1976) was a key figure in American photography in the 20th century, both for his innovative photographic production and for his important role as a teacher at prestigious institutions such as the California School of Fine Arts, the George Eastman House and MIT. For his editorial work as co-founder, editor and director of the magazine Aperture it was, moreover, located at the epicenter of the American photographic debate of the second half of the century.

This exhibition —the first retrospective of his work to be organized in Europe— offers a complete overview of his work, including his most representative subjects (nature photography, portraiture and street photography) and paying special attention to his work with sequences, which he usually presented in portfolio format. Some of them are shown for the first time in Europe. A selection of documents – contact sheets, books and magazines – finally allows us to form a comprehensive view of the dimension of Minor White as an author, editor and curator.

Commissioner: Carlos Gollonet (chief curator of photography at Fundación Mapfre)
