A HISTORY OF ART IN WOMEN’S KEY: 19TH AND 20TH CENTURIES

Thursday, June 18 at 7 p.m

In charge of Carmen Mestresretired professor of Geography and History and graduate in Anthropology from the UB, she also has a master’s degree in Women’s Studies from DUODA

This talk will focus on the new artistic trends of the 19th and 20th centuries and the important participation of women artists in these styles that broke with the previous academicism. Although the landscape seems to have changed, women still have to fight to be recognized in an artistic world still too dominated by men.

In a feminist vein, we will try to rescue from oblivion a whole series of works of art made by painters that the history of patriarchal art has wanted to ignore or minimize in various ways. And we will ask ourselves, as the Guerrilla Girls did in the eighties, if “women must be naked to enter art museums”.
