Coliseum Theatre Gencat Cultural Agenda

The Coliseum is probably the theater with the most imposing facade in Barcelona, ​​adorned with the already characteristic light bulb letters that illuminate the Gran Via when the sun goes down. It was inaugurated in October 1923 (it’s already a hundred-year-old theater!) and at that time it alternated between film screenings and live shows. Grup Balañá acquired it in the 1950s, scheduling major film premieres that have included the presence of George Clooney, Harrison Ford, Pedro Almodóvar, Hilary Swank and Hugh Grant, among others. During this stage there was some exception in its cinematographic programming with Yerma with Núria Espert and concerts by Joan Manuel Serrat.

In 2007 it became a permanent theater, with “Cómeme el Coco, Negro” by La Cubana, hosting since then, large companies and live shows, both national and international, musicals, music concerts, stand-up comedy and private events.

The Coliseum has 1,500 seats divided into 3 floors, platform, 1st floor and 2nd floor. On the first floor, behind the letters that announce each artist, is one of the most charming (and still quite unknown) bars in the city. Above, is “La Cúpula”, one of the most well-kept spaces in all of Barcelona that we will soon open to add a new venue to the city’s entertainment.
