synopsis

The first images of the Plaza de Maig Mothers that go around the world, the legendary photo of Diego Maradona’s goal with his hand against the English in the 1986 World Cup and the series on the historic Trial of the Military Councils, are some of the most emblematic photos captured by Eduardo Longoni’s lens.

This photographer, who had violence as an indelible mark from his beginnings, synthesizes the commitment of an entire generation of photojournalists who resisted on the streets during the dark years of the civic-military dictatorship.

Longoni is a restless artist who reinvents himself and sets out to find new professional challenges. As he prepares a retrospective for his 40-year career, he redefines his photos by resorting to new forms and artistic languages.

Today, away from the streets, Eduardo turns his gaze towards his origins. He visits the places of his childhood in the city of Mar del Plata, and decides to set up a public projection of photos there, printing his images on the raging waves of the sea.

Eduardo Longoni’s photographs question us. are they beautiful or compromised? Do they speak a truth or are they a work of art? Whatever the answer, his gaze was always pierced by the same sense: that of honesty.
