Barcelona to host first International Forum of Translators of Catalan Literature in 2026 – News


The Ramon Llull Institute (the Catalan cultural diplomacy body) is spearheading the first International Forum of Translators of Catalan Literaturea major project of high strategic value for Catalonia’s cultural and linguistic policy. Thanks to the work of translators, authors such as Irene Solà, Montserrat Roig and Víctor Català now share the international literary stage with Toni Morrison, Natalia Ginzburg and Emily Brontë.

The initiative places translators at the heart of the cultural and literary conversation, highlighting their fundamental role in the dissemination of Catalan culture. Translators act as expert lawyerscapable of identifying relevant works, contextualising them and facilitating their reception in other languages. Their work involves not only adapting texts, but also building cultural bridges, forging links between international publishers and contributing to the profile of Catalan authors and thinkers in various markets.

The event, which will take place from 23 to 26 November 2026will establish Barcelona as the global meeting point for translators of Catalan literature for the first time.

Over four days, the forum will bring together 150 professionals from various countries, combining plenary sessions, practical workshops, industry discussions and meetings with authors and publishers with cultural activities open to the public. The aim is to share insights on literary trends, emerging technologies and best practices, foster the exchange of experiences and strengthen the international network of translators of Catalan literature.

The forum aims to be a catalyst for new translations, projects and alliances between the Catalan literary and publishing system and the international sphere.

Organized by the Ramon Llull Institute, the event will be held in collaboration with the Institute of Catalan Studies (IEC) and the Center for Contemporary Culture of Barcelona (CCCB)the venue for the International Forum of Translators of Catalan Literature.
