
Génesis, a new theater and a higher school of performing arts in Poblenou
The Focus group has announced the creation of genesisa new cultural facility that will combine a theater with a capacity for 500 spectators and a higher school of performing arts for up to 600 students. The project was presented this Monday to coincide with the event celebrating the company’s 40th anniversary and is scheduled to be inaugurated in September 2028, at the group’s headquarters, on Carrer d’Ávila, in the Parc i la Llacuna del Poblenou neighborhood.

The initiative entails an investment of 11 million euros and the transformation of the current industrial building of 3,000 square meters into a new cultural facility of 6,000 square meters, after a construction period estimated at around 20 months.

What will the new Genesis Theater be like?
the new Genesis Theatre it will have state-of-the-art stage and technical equipment and will be designed to host productions of various formats. The general director of Art and Content of the Focus Group, Cesar Martinezexplained that the room will have an artistic line based on “the avant-garde and risk” and that it will bet on innovation, contemporary creation and new scenic languages.

The project also includes the creation of a higher school of performing arts and trades that will offer artistic training – interpretation, singing, dance and music -, technical training – lighting, sound and stage machinery – and management training – production, distribution, marketing, communication and cultural management -. The aim is to directly connect training with the performing arts industry. In this sense, Martínez has defined the center as “a direct door to the sector for students” and has underlined the desire to “create the best higher school of performing arts and trades in the whole State and build a unique theater in all of Europe”.
The presentation of Genesis took place as part of the Focus Group’s 40th anniversary celebration, with the presence of numerous representatives from the cultural, business and institutional worlds. The president of the group, Daniel Martinezhas recalled the origins of the company, founded in 1986 from the independent theater group Gênesi Teatral, and has positioned the new project as a new stage of growth and consolidation of the group’s comprehensive vision, which combines company, culture, production and exhibition.

For her part, the general director of the Focus Group, Isabel Vidalhas remarked that Genesis represents the company’s ambition to continue advancing and growing in a context of transformation in the cultural sector. In this regard, he pointed out that the group is preparing “for new growth, with investment, material resources, reinforcement of the workforce and plans to face the technological revolution”, and he defined the project as “a good springboard to launch into the waters of the future”.
Founded in 1986, the Focus Group is one of the main performing arts companies in the country. The group develops a transversal activity that includes theatrical and audiovisual production, technical services for the show and the management of cultural facilities. He currently manages theaters such as Romeothe goya, The Villarroel or the county and, throughout his career, he has promoted hundreds of productions and cultural projects in Catalonia and the State.
