The unprecedented meeting between Iphigenia and Achilles
The Tantarantana Theater presents, from November 20 to December 7, bambithe new proposal of Candela Maya piece that combines theater and live cinema to imagine an unusual situation: the first meeting between Iphigènia and Achilles. A quote that classical mythology never picked up and that here takes shape on stage.
A bambithe two characters do not appear in the room, but go out into the street. With a mobile phone that records and broadcasts live, they travel around the Tantarantana to observe the world as if they were seeing it for the first time. This material returns to the room transformed into an “immediate cinema” that gives shape to the meeting and everything that surrounds them.
The piece focuses on intimacy and the way we relate to each other today. It talks about how technology can bring us closer in a time of fast and unstable affections, and it claims tenderness and honesty as necessary values in the midst of an accelerated pace of life.
bambi also starts from a direct question: what if we give ourselves to each other for two hours? From here, the border between reality and fiction blurs and the viewer accompanies an Iphigenia who “comes back to life” to discover love, contact and even the vertigo of not knowing what’s to come.
An unrepeatable stage device
Each function is different. Candela May—creator, director and protagonist—shares the scene with an Achilles played every night by a different actor who has not rehearsed, does not know the route and does not know what will happen. The encounter is real and spontaneous, and the viewer is a direct witness.
The cast of Achilles, always announced in secret until the start of each function and arranged alphabetically, includes: Aleix Melé, Aleix Muñoz, Arnau Comas, Cisco Cruz, Gabi Jiménez, Guillem Albansanz, Jaume Madaula, Joan Sentís, Marc Tinés, Olivier Barrette, Pol Para and Sergi Saladrigues.
Candela May trained in Barcelona and at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York. He has worked in scenic and audiovisual projects such as Moebius (TV3) or Seen 00:25 at the Edinburgh Fringe. with bambiMay presents a scenic experiment that combines naturalness, risk and proximity, and that turns each function into a unique experience.
