
Course “History of Furniture. 20th and 21st Centuries”
The evolution of furniture throughout the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st constitutes a fundamental chapter for understanding the cultural, technical and social transformations of the contemporary world. The Course “History of Furniture. 20th and 21st Centuries” proposes an analytical and critical reading of furniture design in this period, starting from its historical roots and moving towards the most recent innovations.
Now in its sixth edition, it is a reference course for professionals, researchers and design enthusiasts. The course offers an in-depth theoretical and practical view of the history of furniture in the 20th and 21st centuries. It combines theoretical classes with monographic sessions that delve deeper into specific topics, such as Catalan and Spanish design or technical and methodological issues. A first part focuses on the international context – mainly Europe and the United States – and a second, on more specific issues, is explained.
An essential part of the program are visits to collections, works, archives and museums, among others. The course is designed so that the student can adapt according to their interests through a complete and flexible training.
