When the cold comes, elPetit knits
Prepare your agendas, your senses and your curiosity, because this November the elPetit Festivalwhich from November 15 to 30 invites us to see the world through a child’s eyes and enjoy a program designed for children aged 0 to 5 and their families. The 21st edition of this international event will feature 15 shows, five of which are new festival co-productions.
This year, the motto of the festival is “We knit?”, and not just to make scarves now that the cold will be approaching. ElPetit wants to weave bonds, emotions and communities, to create special connections between children and adults, between artists and the public, between very different contexts and realities. This year, the competition reaches 11 cities: Sabadell, Sant Cugat, Sant Quirze del Vallès, Igualada, Olot, Tàrrega, Granollers, Madrid, Lleida and Barcelona, which incorporate two new venues: on the one hand, the emblematic Sala Fabià Puigserver at the Teatre Lliure de Montjuïc, and on the other, the Penitentiary Center of Ponent de Lleida. The festival continues to bring the arts closer to parents deprived of their freedom, who will be able to experience workshops and shows with their children. Theater that welcomes, connects and transforms even inside a prison.
ElPetit has four absolute premieres in this edition. The first two can be seen in the Sala de Sabadell: Community (November 21), where the company Electric 28 proposes a funny and tender fable full of animals, and Gesture of Taiat Dancewhich transforms the stage into a living audiovisual installation, where the movement of the audience generates sounds and visuals in real time. It will premiere on SAT on November 22! the show SO of Lagoon Art that invites us to be silent and listen to the world through a sensory sound ritual, made of stones, drums and voices that evoke changing landscapes, and, finally, WAVE, on November 23 at the Teatre Principal in Sabadell, where Laura Alcalá Freudenthalwill immerse us in a mixture of dance, objects, light and the live music of a cello.
The Teatre Principal de Sabadell will also host on November 21 the preview ofuniquefrom the Andalusian company DA.TE Dancean exploration of bodies and their uniqueness inspired by Alexander Calder. While the Free Theater and the Mercat de les Flors will host proposals such as a day later DO2 WOLVESthe new show ofEngruna Theater that invites us to look inside ourselves to understand the complexity of the emotions that inhabit us, or Spiel im Spiel of the Germans Ceren Oran & Moving Borderswhere three dancers delve into the “game of playing” to explore the rules, spaces and choices of each other’s game worlds.
This November, close your ears, open your eyes like oranges and grab your knitting needles, as elPetit returns with great opportunities to surprise us. Fifteen innovative shows will vindicate a maxim of elPetit: the importance of living quality experiences in the first years of life.
