exhibition "Minimalist experiments, 1968 – 1973"

This exhibition recovers the youthful work of the artists Xavier Franquesa (Barcelona, 1947) and Salvador Saura (Molins de Rei, 1950), and has been conceived as a dialogue between the works they created during the period 1968-1973, in which they experimented with structures and geometric shapes and the concepts of hermeticism and simplicity. During those years both artists exchanged their experience and formed part of Grup Gran de Gràcia, made up of the artists Carles Camps, Xavier Franquesa, Jordi Pablo, Santi Pau and Salvador Saura. In 1970 Xavier Franquesa and Salvador Saura held a first exhibition in the latter’s studio, the following year all five artists continued with an exhibition at Sala Gaspar in Barcelona and in 1972 they were invited to participate in the “Encuentros de Pamplona”. In 1973, Franquesa and Saura put an end to this stage of experimental artistic practice.
