a day to humanize the end of life – Athenaeum
Last Friday, October 10, it took place at the Workers’ Federation of Molins de Rei the conference “Palliative care today: a clinical and social approach”, organized by Pal·liAktius in the framework of World Palliative Care Day. The event brought together healthcare professionals, community projects and people involved in the defense of a dignified, humane and accompanied end of life.
During the morning, two complementary tables were developed. The first, with the interventions of Gala Serrano (ICO – L’Hospitalet), Dolors Torremorell (Consorci Sanitari de Terrassa) and Angela Duran (ICO), offered a clinical and professional perspective on the evolution and current challenges of palliative care.
The second table gave voice to social and creative initiatives like puppets, radiopathy and the same Pal·liAktiushighlighting the importance of accompaniment from a community, emotional and participative perspective.
With a great reception from the people attending, the day is consolidated as a necessary meeting space to break silences, generate debate and claim life – until the end – as the central axis of any care system.
The day was an opportunity to listen, share and put together different views on the end of life. A plural and close encounter, which made clear the importance of promoting spaces where dialogue between the clinical and community spheres is possible.
Pal·liAktius and the Ateneu Cooperatiu del Baix Llobregat continue to work to make these initiatives more visible and stronger, because caring – until the end – is also transforming.
