Faberllull is hosting for the third consecutive year a paid creative residence for three Catalan and Balearic illustrators in order to work on projects proposed by three international publishers. The aim of the stay is to foster the publication of Catalan and Balearic author abroad and, at the same time, to encourage international publishers to make commissions to professionals in the territory.
This edition was attended by the Albatros Media publishers of the Czech Republic, Coccinella d’Italia, Data Status de Serbia, Lecturita de Argentina, Metichmio of Greece, Mixtvision of Germany and editor of Brazil. According to their projects, about sixty people responded to the open call to present work proposals. Once the valuation period was completed, three of these publishers chose three illustrators in order to start a professional collaboration that culminates in the residence in Faberllull.
Until October 10, the three selected will focus their efforts on developing the Coccinella, Mixtvision and Editor Telos projects, which, in turn, monitor the creative process with virtual meetings. In the resolution of the stay, and based on the results, the two parties will decide if they want to formalize their relationship in an editorial contract with the aim of publishing the work.
The selected illustrators
Júlia Quintana (Martorelles) is in charge of creating an illustrated children’s album by the Italian publishing house Coccinella, written by Chiara Sorrentino; Smith Glafira (Valldoreix) works with Mixtvision Germany on the creation of a teaching book on sunglasses; and Francesca Corso (Palma) goes hand in hand with the Brazilians Editorial Telos in illustrating In my housean intimate and poetic text written by Clara Haddad that talks about the house.
Program of Activities
The three illustrators arrived in Faberllull yesterday and will be there until October 10. During these days, they will have individual work and other collective work, as well as virtual meetings with publishers. Also they will be visited by Paula Esparraguera, by Ute Körner, who will talk about the internationalization of the portfolio at the Bologna Fair and later negotiation with contract models; Africa Fanlo will give them a workshop of characters and creative stamping; And Tina Vallès will give them tips to think, develop and structure the story of a children’s album.
In addition, tomorrow On Thursday at 6 pm, Smith Glefira will present his graphic novel Trufflein the Isop bookstore of Olot. It will be within the framework of a conversation with the visual artist and teacher of the Art School of Olot Mireia Coromina. The activity is free.
Thursday of next week, day October 9, at 5.30pm In the children’s room of the Marià Vayreda Library of Olot, Júlia Quintana will tell her story The chestnut, While live he draws scenes and characters in the story.
