The humor of ‘Les Mares’ honors women in the postwar

The Poliorama Theater is hosting until April 20 The mothersthe new show of Fel Faixedas and Carles Xurigueraa consolidated comic duet that has returned to the stage with an emotional and hilarious proposal that pays tribute to its mothers and a whole generation of women.

“It is a work based on real events, literally,” say the actors, who have built the assembly from their own experiences and testimonies of women from their villages, Arbúcies and Torroella de Montgrí. “We wanted to pay a posthumous tribute to our mothers, but also to all those women who, from simplicity and sacrifice, marked the lives of their children and a whole society,” says Xuriguera.

Both mothers, who died twenty years ago, were fishmongers, and they were neither war heroines nor icons of today’s feminism, but according to Xuriguera, “their legacy is incalculable.” The assembly shows the mothers as complex figures: tender and protectors, but also with frustrations, silences and wishes not expressed.

Humor, honesty and theater

The show features customary scenes, black humor brushes and moments of great emotional burden: “ When our mothers died, humor saved us, ” says Faixedas, excited: “ Now, that black humor we have turned it into theater, and people laugh with us with the tragedies of life. ” Into The mothersthe actors not only play their own characters, but also give their mothers’ life, creating a theatrical dynamic that blurred the boundaries between memory, fiction and stage reality.

The work also includes projections of real testimonies: older women talking frankly about their lives. “When we asked them about their dreams, they told us they had never had it. And that struck us,” says Faixedas. “My mother always told me that she would have liked to do theater. I thought it was a childhood dream, but now I understand that it was a wish that was born to see that I could do it.”
