Exhibition: "Aurora’s awakening."
The Awakening of the Aurora is an exhibition proposal of the line of digital arts research of La Salle Campus Barcelona, a founding member of the Ramon Llull University, and has the collaboration of the Directorate General of Dissemination. Curated by Dr. Jorge Egea and Dr. Gloria Fernández Somoza, Narra – and reconstructs 3D – a unusual and paradoxical history, of great heritage, historical and artistic interest. In 1927, the sculptor Joan Borrell i Nicolau and the architect Nicolau Maria Rubió i Tudurí received the Barcelona City Council’s commission to design a monumental complex on the occasion of the 1929 Universal Exhibition. Barcelona celebrated this progress with sources and images that reflected the renewal and modernity of the city. In this way, a Noucentista aesthetics somnia was born in which the Greek Olympus was present in the Jardinets de Gràcia, a nexus between the end of Avenida Diagonal and the beginning of the Villa de Gràcia (annexed to Barcelona in 1897). The ensemble, consisting of eighteen sculptures, never settled completely. After July 13, 1929, General Miguel Primo de Rivera was inaugurated, in 1931 it was dismantled. Why did such an imposing work have such a brief real life? Aesthetic, political and social reasons were responsible for this loss. However, the monument continues to motivate interest in its unusual and paradoxical history. The fragmented vision does not allow us to understand the magnitude of the work of Borrell and Nicolau. 3D technology facilitates the reconstruction of the monument, and, for the first time, presents a global view of this complex and lavish monument, recovering the memory of the transformation of public space. The 3D reconstruction process allows us to know the monument from a new perspective, and to bring to the public the results obtained in the framework of university research. For the first time, the magnitude of the monument is analyzed, which, if completed, would have filled a 194 meter route throughout the area of the Jardinets de Gràcia.
