The Time Capsule of PEN Català 2024 / Activities / Visit us / Start
Next Wednesday, December 18, at 19:00, will take place in the Room of the Caritat of the Library of Catalonia, the edition of the 2024 of the project “La Capsula del Temps” of the PEN Català. During the event, the translator Marta Pera, ambassador of PEN 2024, will be released to the writer and poet Biel Mesquida, who will be the ambassador of the PEN of 2025.
The project “The Time Capsule” was born in April 2023, coinciding with the closing of the events to commemorate the centenary of PEN Català and will end in 2047, when the 125th anniversary of the entity is celebrated.
During this period, the PEN will choose an author each year and will commission an unpublished text to be deposited in the Library of Catalonia and which will not have access until 2047. The chosen person will also become PEN ambassador for a year, With the mission of promoting and publicizing the values of this organization. The Catalan PEN has been, since its foundation, a platform for the international projection of literature and writers of the Catalan -speaking territories.
“The time capsule” is the result of the entity that the entity made to two partners of different generations: the poet and translator Antoni Clapés and the writer Alba Dalmau. The aim is to establish a dialogue between present and future from literature and reflect on the challenges of our society and the expectations and desires we project on the future.
The event will begin with the institutional greeting of the director of the Library of Catalonia, Eugènia Serra, and the President of the PEN Català, Laura Huerga. Then Toni Clapés will talk with Marta Pera and Biel Mesquida. At the end, the 2024 ambassador, Marta Pera, will introduce her writing to the “Time Capsule” and will pass the box with the blank papers in Biel Mesquida so that he can write his proposal for 2025.
