06/02 – 19 h. Inauguration: The terrible night. The effects of the 1911 Candlestick storm in Barceloneta.
From February 6 to March 15, 2025
Exhibition curated by Maria Jesús Vidal Novás, Isabel Centeno Guzmán and Pau Vinyes i Roig.
The exhibition goes into one of the most important labor tragedies produced in the Catalan Countries, such as the temporary tragic of 1911, the deadliest of all and has left a strong mark on popular memory. Nothing predicted that on Tuesday, January 31 of that year, time would change in a radical way and become a fierce and murderer storm.
The fishermen of Barcelona and other places came out, as every time they went up, to work. Due to the storm, thirty-five sailors from Barceloneta lost their lives and several Latin sailing boats were destroyed-known as oxen-including the Pelayo and the Machicha, In the hands of the family of Hilari Salvadó i Castell, the last republican mayor of Barcelona.
