Thank you for trusting El Flea
We want to thank you. Yes, to you who have supported our markets for years, who always use second hand and who come to stir everything up every Sunday. To you who mobilized, who shared our cry for help on networks and signed our petition “Save The Flea” so that the Barcelona City Council could reevaluate the suspension of our market in Drassanes.
If you are a follower of our markets and a second-hand lover, you already know that after the City Council suspended our esteemed El Flea market, we got to work collecting signatures. We had the goal of obtaining 3,750 signatures in just 24 days. It was a difficult mission and unfortunately for a few hundred, we have fallen short.
Although we have not reached our goal, these days we have managed to get 1,439 second-hand market lovers to sign and help us exert a bit of pressure so that the Municipal Council considers an alternative space to hold our monthly market.
We want to send a special thank you to all of you who took the time to write about our market and what it means to you during the signature collection.
Like Fernanda, who describes El Flea as a family activity that gave life to the Drassanes neighborhood and highlights the use of the space where the market takes place, a space that is normally unoccupied and thanks to the events organized by Flea Market Barcelona full of people
«There was no more beautiful, familiar and sustainable activity than the Flea Market that not only gave life to the Drassanes neighborhood by making use of an unoccupied and abandoned public space to say the least, but also created a community with a circular market proposal also giving work and opportunity to all the citizens of Barcelona. Less Copa América and more Flea Market please.”

We have also been able to read comments such as those of Marta or Cristina, which highlight the importance of Flea in the neighborhood and in the social fabric of Barcelona. We are excited to know that our work has a positive impact and that we are not alone in this battle with the administration to bring our market back to the public.
Between the Portal del Ángel, full of consumption based on unethical production, and the Flea, there is no comparison. The Flea is an essential part of the Raval: it helps ensure that our neighborhood is not stigmatized, it allows many people to bring some money home and, most importantly, it encourages other forms of consumption. Circular economy and support for small creators! I hope we can gather the necessary signatures.”

We want you to know that even if the collection of signatures does not continue, we are not giving up. We remain open and willing to collaborate as long as the Barcelona City Council wants the city to have a popular, sustainable market that encourages responsible consumption and circulation on public roads. Because if we are good at something, it is energizing spaces, giving life to the barri and get together with the neighbors to sell and buy second hand.
We continue to trust that in the future El Flea, a project that has been a key piece in the cultural and social life of the city for more than 12 years, can soon return to public roads.
Long live El Flea!
