40 Catalan publishers participate in the stand of the Department of Culture at the Frankfurt 2025 Book Fair – Detail news


The 77th edition of the Frankfurt Book Fairwhich is celebrated between October 15 and 19, hosts an important Catalan representation in a stand that, under the slogan Catalonia, Land of Books; Barcelona, ​​City of Literaturerepresents literature and the Catalan publishing sector. The booth is part of the actions that the Department of Culture carries out to promote Catalan literature and the internationalization of the publishing sector.

The stand, organized by theCatalan Institute of Cultural Companies (ICEC) through the Internationalization Brand Catalan Arts; The Institut Ramon Llull (IRL), and the Barcelona City Council, and with the participation of theAssociation of Editors in Catalan Language, from Publishers Guild of Catalonia and of The Institute of Balearic Studiesoffers a joint image of the sector and provides professionals with a business space to carry out their activities at the fair with the highest facilities.

Internationalization of Catalan literature
Once again, the Institut Ramon Llull has arranged about eighty meetings with publishers from around the world to continue promoting the translation of Catalan literature into other languages, consolidating its presence in stable markets and opening up new opportunities in strategic and emerging countries. The IRL supports international publishing projects through its translation aid programs, the promotion and publication of illustrated works. In the last five years more than 1,800 translations of original literary works in Catalan have been published.

Coinciding with the celebration of the fair, on October 15, the exhibition “The Catalan Countries in Frankfurt: language and culture, literature and research” will be opened at the University of Frankfurt. The exhibition dedicates much of its space to the 40th anniversary of the Catalan Library that hosts this German university, which is the largest Catalan thematic library outside the Catalan Countries, with a collection of about 35,000 volumes.

The project is conceptualized by the University of the University of the University and has the academic support of Professor Tilbert Dídac Stegmann, Professor Jacopo Torregrossa and Roman professor Radwimmer. The exhibition can be visited until December 12.

The ICEC has edited an booklet With all the information from the publishers participating in the fair that will be distributed to accredited international professionals.

Apart from the publishers accredited at the Catalan stand, Frankfurt will also attend up to 20 publishing groups with their own stand, including Anagram, Editorial Casals, ECC Ediciones, Edebé Educación, Grup Planeta, Herder Editorial, Hoaki Books, Lecta, Larousse Editorial, Penguin Random House, Quaderns Crema-Acantilado, RBA, Tusquets Editores and University of Barcelona Edicions. Other Catalan publishers will also work from the Stand of the Federation of Editorial Guilds of Spain.

On October 15, on a trip organized by the Guild of Publishers of Catalonia, 30 representatives of other Catalan publishers will visit the fair and will have the opportunity to know their operation.

The Frankfurt Fair
The Frankfurt Book Fair is an essential event in the annual work calendar of Catalan publishers and other agents in the book production chain. Annually, the fair brings together more than 7,000 companies that show their news and it is estimated that 80% of the annual copyright contracts in the international field are signed during these days. In recent years, the presence of Catalan professionals has increased. It should be borne in mind that Barcelona represents more than 50% of the production and turnover of the publishing industry in Spain.

Over the last 23 years, ICEC and IRL have organized and promoted the presence of our publishers and our literature in the main international literary events, including the Guadalajara Book Fair (Barcelona will be the guest of honor in 2025), the Frankfurt Book Fair, the Du Livre de Paris Festival, the Fira del Book Fair, From Bologna’s book, the Book Fair of Buenos Aires and the London Book Fair. In addition, this 2025 also joined the Angouleme International Comic Festival where ICEC, for the first time, had a booth.
