20 years of ‘non solum’
The Poliorama Theater is preparing to receive once again, from June 4 to 15, Non solumthe successful monologue of Sergi López and Jorge Picó. Twenty years after its premiere, the piece returns again with its particular mix of humor, reflection and a stage game that has captivated the audience every time it has been performed.
López, alone in stage, multiplies in dozens of characters to try to answer the question: “What happens here?” With an austere scenery that is reduced to a wooden box and plastic glasses, the actor unfolds an exhibition of humor, absurdity and theatrical philosophy and invites the audience to make a journey full of eccentric situations and unexpected moments. “Laughter is a brutal weapon,” says López, who also claims it as a necessary tool to understand the world and ourselves: “humor helps us to digest reality, to look at a perspective and to survive in the midst of chaos.”
Released at the Temporada Alta Festival in 2005, Non solum He has been represented on more than 900 occasions and in several languages, including French and Spanish, and has reached stage in Europe and Latin America. Its quality and originality have earned him acknowledgments such as the Max Prize for Best Text in Catalan and the silver photograms for the best theater actor.
“We like to take the audience to an eccentric, surreal place”
The playwright and co -director of the work, Jorge Picóemphasizes the simplicity and essence of the project: “We like to bring the audience to an eccentric and surrealistic place, with a minimalist set where a armchair or a spoon can be enough to create a whole universe.” This theatrical philosophy, heir to the Commedia dell’arte And physical theater is reflected in the way López builds its characters, making each gesture and each word an indispensable element of the narrative.
A living show
“It’s as if now premiering!” Sergi López says: “Non solum He has changed with me over the years, and is now more concentrated, dynamic and essential. ” The years, however, have not only confirmed that he is still a current show, but also continues to connect with the audience today. “ This is brutal: at some point it seemed that it seemed to us at some point. The play, who constantly plays with the dialogue between his characters, is a tribute to theatrical polyphony and the ability of the actor to reinvent himself in each function.
