SOLARIGRAPHY – Pinhole Astrophotography
Organize: Experimental Photo Festival
An amazing experience, photosensitive, leisurely, handcrafted, respectful of the environment. A hybrid experience between art and science, where you can enjoy a long journey, mixing different photographic techniques, analog in the capture and digital in the positive.
You will learn how to capture and enhance without the need for a chemical laboratory the traces of the apparent path of the sun day after day in a single photograph. That which magically makes visible a beautiful hidden scene, which the human eye is not able to capture or retain by itself and with a pictorial appearance of a dreamscape.
Starting from disused objects, you will build and load your pinhole, analogue and special camera to be used for solarigraphy, the “LataCam”, which you will take with you ready to create your first solar landscapes.
Block 1 – Darkroom theory, pinhole photography and solarigraphy.
Theoretical lecture with a general introduction: about camera obscura, pinhole photography and delving into what solarigraphy is and what cameras are like LataCam.
Helped with image projection.
Block 2 – Camera construction practice LataCam and how to load it.
Practical workshop where, reusing disused materials, you will learn and build your special pinhole and analog camera for solarigraphy and under red safety light you would charge it, leaving it ready to capture your first solarigraphy.
Block 3 – Theory and practice outside of placing and removing cameras LataCam.
We will move to an outside area to discuss how to place the cameras according to the chosen location and how to proceed to remove them in a practical way.
Block 4 – Theory and practice of digitizing and positivizing negatives.
With the classroom in the dark with only red light, we will open the collected cameras to view the resulting negatives and digitize them. Already with normal lighting, we will improve the negative with photo retouching programs and applications. We will also discuss how and why to keep negatives that are still dormant.
Block 5 – Prayers, questions and debate.
We will look at other experimental techniques emerging from solarigraphy, such as lensed and collaborative solarigraphy such as the SolariSwap, with examples from my own projects.
For over 16s, no prior photographic knowledge is required, and no materials need to be brought.
In case you want to take a look at the subject or for any doubts.
