14th Ethnographic Film Show of Catalonia

14th Ethnographic Film Show of Catalonia

As every year, at La Violeta we hosted the Ethnographic Film Show, by the Gràcia History Workshop. A film cycle where popular culture is the protagonist. This year, the theme revolved around associations and co -operatives as essential engines for the maintenance and promotion of culture from its bases: the people who are part of it.

We started on Tuesday, September 3 with the screening of the documentary Athenaeus: seed of freedomby Sergi Sandúa, where we learned about the history of these emblematic places as collective spaces from where Catalan culture has been promoted.

On Tuesday, September 17 we continued with Melting can: Indian castellers, Catalan govindesby Marta Saleta. An example of how culture crosses borders and is able to connect the castellera tradition of Catalonia with the human pyramids of India. We were fortunate enough to have the same director on the day of the screening, who told us in the first hand the experience of recording in a vibrant and festive atmosphere, with the crash of cultures.

Finally, on Wednesday, September 25, we viewed the film The latterby Roger Gómez and Dani Resines, where we learned about the experience of the neighbors on Puigmartí Street, which, accustomed to being in the last position in the decoration competition for the Festa Major, face the 2011 competition with collective resilience.
