Inés is a young donostiarra who crosses a vital crisis and, during a stay in India, discovers a book that will change his life: Sultana’s Dreamby the Muslim feminist author Begum Royaya. This utopian story published in 1905 reveals to him an inverted world, the “country of women”, where they are the ones who dominate knowledge and power, while men live locked and ignorant. Captivated by this vision, the protagonist of the film begins a physical and interior journey through Indian lands, following the footprints of the author and this imaginary society, while reflecting on gender roles, freedom and his place in the world.
Into The Sultana SwedenIsabel Herguera builds a animated fable from the Feminist classic by Begum Royaya. The first feature film by the author, presented in the Official Section of Donosti and nominated for the Goya Awards and the Forqué Awards, addresses gender inequalities with a poetic and critical tone. The tape travels between reality and utopia, with a protagonist in life and symbolic research of the “country of women”. A proposal that invites to imagine fairer societies from a look, both intimate and universal.
