Where are men in feminist formations?
L ‘Social and solidarity economy (ESS) has grown in recent decades with a shared horizon: a collective proposal for build real alternatives to capitalist, patriarchal and extractive economic models. Is not just another way of producing or consuming, but of rethink how we organize ourselves, how we relate And how we put the sustainability of life – in all its dimensions – in the center. The transformation we defend can not only be discursive: it must be shared and questioned from the inside. To do this we need tools, but also honesty. That is why we propose to look more closely at a reality that has been repeated in recent years: the Participation of cis men in formations in feminist economies.
A critical analysis of recent years shows a paradox that we cannot ignore: despite the commitment declared by the feminist perspective as the central axis of the transformative project of the ESS, The participation of cis men in the spaces of feminist training and reflection is still scarcealmost testimonial. It is necessary to review which imaginaries we drag on who to transform what and ask ourselves: Is it consistent that the construction of an economic model based on care and co -responsibility is done without the actual involvement and interest of half of the cooperative fabric? This statement is not intended to be a critic, but an invitation. It is not just about covering a symbolic share of participation, but of understanding that Without the active involvement of everyone there is no possible transformation.
According to data collected by the Circle of Feminist Economies of Coópolis between 2020 and 2024, Most of the attendees of our formations identified with the female genderwith a clearly lower male participation. Specifically, in 2019 – 20, 59.46% of the participants were women and 27.38%, men. Of the equivalent of 13.15%, we do not have data corresponding to the gender. The stage is repeated in the following years. In 2020 – 21, women’s participation was again considerably higher than male: 58.01% in 29.66%. The periods of 2021 – 22 and 2022 – 23 bring one of the highest percentages in terms of the participation of women and dissent: 69.41% and 66.85%, respectively. Last year, corresponding to 2023 – 24, concludes with a female participation of 60.5%, a men’s participation of 28.3% and a total of 11.08% people identifying with non -binary gender. Results that indicate a clear symptom of Unbalance in transformative co -responsibility and feminized overload that moves to other aspects of cooperativism.
