The Faculty of Philosophy and Letters at the Masaryk University in Brno has been offering Catalan studies for 30 years, and in the 2015-2016 academic year the offer of a full degree with a total of 180 credits began.
the next March 4the director of the Department of Romance Languages and Literatures (MUNI), Ivo Buzekand the director of the Language and Universities Area of the Ramon Llull Institute, Josep-Anton Fernandezwill start the celebration event.
The day will include a conference on the morphosyntax and written expression of Catalan as an additional language among learners with Slavic, Germanic or Romance L1, by the linguist Elga Cremades; a conference on Catalan fantastic narrative in the 21st century, by the philologist Alfonso Gregori; and a presentation and poetry recital by the writer and playwright Lluís-Anton Baulenasunder the title “Poetry of love and testimony (Salvat-Brossa-Ferrater-Vian)”.
The event will also have the participation of teachers and students. The cellist Arnau Petoivalsky, former student of the degree, will close the event with the concert Melodies by F. Mompou, E. Toldrà and traditional songs.
Masaryk University has also established itself as a reference center for the certification of knowledge of the Catalan language in the Central European area: in addition to offering all levels of knowledge, other students related to Catalan Studies at the universities in Bratislava and Vienna appear for the exams.
The Ramon Llull Institute promotes the teaching of Catalan at universities and higher education centers through the Llull Network, made up of around 130 universities from all over the world that they have more than 4,000 students enrolled.
Throughout these years, the teachers of the Llull Network at this university have been: David Utrera Domínguez, Pavlína Svandová, Jioí Pešek, Elga Cremades Cortiella, Cristina Rodríguez, Carles Bartual Martín, Lucie Kuzmová, Elena Casas Cortada i Michal Brabecwinner of the 2024 Ramon Llull Foundation Literary Translation Award for his Czech translation of the novel I sing and the mountain dances ofIrene Solàpublished with the title Zpívám já hora soči by the publishing house Euskaldun.
