🎭 Masks were the soul of Greco-Roman theater! They were not just simple costumes, but transformed the actor into a character, amplifying facial features and emotions so that even the most distant viewers could perceive them. With a mask, an actor could become a mythological hero or a satyr, and even play several characters in the same play. Although the original masks made of wood and linen have not survived, we have incredible representations like this one on display at #IMPERIVM. Discovered in Empúries and dated to the 1st century AD, this mask was probably part of the decoration of a funerary monument. Come see it up close and discover the magic of the old theater!
