Next Friday, February 21, at 7 pm, will take place in the Room of the Charity of the Library of Catalonia the day “From the summit to the lighthouse, a crossing to the language and the Romanx culture”.
The event will begin with the greeting of the director of the Library of Catalonia, Eugènia Serra. Then the poet, translator and publisher Antoni Clapés will make an introduction and give way to the intervention “El Romanx from Catalonia”, by the professor of the University of Barcelona Maria-reina Bastardes.
There will also be a brief recital of the Swiss singer Astrid Alexandre, who will talk about the popular hunting in Romanx. And finally, there will be a presentation of publications (books and plaquettes) of poets in Romanx language, and a reading of poems in Romanx by Jessica Zuan and Jaschen Andry, and in Catalan, by the translators Dolors Udina and Antoni Clapés.
The Romanx language is a neo-Latin language, spoken by about 60,000 people in the Grisons Canton, in the southeast of Switzerland, and one of the four official languages in the country, along with German, French and Italian.
As a minority and minority language, in its complex current fragmentation, Romanx has a decisive past in the formation of what we now know as Helvetic Confederation. Currently, there is a reborn of writers in their own language – especially poets -, which gives hope for the future of the Romanx.
This day aims to celebrate the meeting between two languages, Catalan and Romanx, and project them in both territories.
Entry is free with limited capacity.
Can also be followed by stress for the YouTube channel of the Library of Catalonia.
