exhibition "Wu Tsang"
Exhibition message: “MACBA premieres Wu Tsang’s film installation, a meditation on the multiplicity of meanings embodied by the protagonist of Georges Bizet’s opera. Carmen is a symbol of freedom and at the same time a conduit for misogyny, an icon of sacrifice, an impure, generative force that constitutes a threat to Europeanness. Filmed in Seville, the film explores popular adaptations and constructions of the Carmen myth, blending fiction with a historically contested landscape. The play uses movement and sound to interweave the different scenes and characters.” This article of the Cultural Agenda was updated on April 19, 2024, therefore, in anticipation of possible subsequent modifications, we recommend you to compare the information with that published on the website of the Museum of Contemporary Art (MACBA ).
