Emilio Aragón and Antonio Banderas bring the musical ‘Godspell’ to the Poliorama

The Poliorama Theater will host the third production of the acclaimed musical Godspell. Produced by Antonio Banderas and premiered at Teatre Soho in Malaga at the end of 2022, this show directed by Emilio Aragon arrives in Barcelona from September 19.

Godspell is a 1970s musical theater classic that was originally conceived and directed by John-Michael Tebelakwith music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartzthe legendary composer responsible for hits like Wicked i The Prince of Egypt. The plot of this musical is based on the Gospels of the New Testament and presents through sketches and parables that celebrate the life and teachings of Jesus Christ “in a lively and funny way”, as explained by those responsible for the production Spanish: “Although it is not a religious work, its messages of tolerance, respect, compassion and hope are very important”. The production also reflects and ironizes the “hippy” atmosphere and the “flower power” culture of the 70s, and is accompanied by a soundtrack with songs like Prepare Ye the Way of the Lord, Day by Day i All for the Best.

The show features Victor Ullate as assistant director, cast director and resident director and with a cast of artists com Adrian Salzedo (Juan Bautista/Judes), Pepe Núfrio (Jesus), Andrew Crespo (Andrew), Nuria Sanchez (Núria), Raul Ortiz (Raúl), Julibett Insulsa (July), Ricky Mata (Ricky), Erika Bleda (Érika) and Noemí Gallego (Noemi) i Angy Fernandezawaiting confirmation. Godspell has been adapted and translated by Rose Batalla and it will be on the Poliorama billboard, for now, until October 13.
