Direct action of mass environmentalism to disarm collapse: the example of the terre’s soulèvements
In a short time, the Soulèvements de la Terre movement has gone from mobilizing 200 people to gather up to 30,000 in direct actions to defend the land and dismantle the ecocidal industry. Their cAim for generating mass environmentalism through direct action and ability to articulate very diverse movements “Sitns, farmers, environmentalists, urbanites, among others,” has placed this group in the point of view, inspiring initiatives everywhere, including Catalonia.
The French movement Soulèvements de la Terre brings together climate activists, farmers, unionists, anti -capitalist autonomous groups and people linked to local struggles. His thesis (promoted since 2021) is based on the realization that only A real popular uprising could stop the climate crisis and end the capitalist sacking of our vital environments. Its aim is to promote collective direct actions and weave a network of local struggles that promote a resistance motion, land redistribution and built of commons on a larger scale.
This organization consisting of small local struggles in the defense of the land and the field for sustainable agriculture has managed to articulate in a social movement in the state, thus achieving their actions to have much more media monitoring and, therefore , its impact is much greater. There are numerous battles won on the field, but perhaps the most sound is the acquittal of the same dissolution decreed by the French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin. The State Council annulled this ministerial decree that condemned the organization to disappear, an legalization personally promoted by Darmanin himself, which highlighted how “annoying” it is the movement in defense of the land for the land. French state.
Beyond the battles in the offices, the direct actions of the movement are concentrated blocking, occupying land and carried out massive sabotage against toxic infrastructure that endanger natural resources.
Coópolis, the Ateneu Cooperativa de Barcelona has invited two of its members to connect the movement with mobilized agents of Catalonia and to share the experience of the territorial articulation. This encounter will take place on December 4, in the blog4BCNwithin the framework of the conference utoply, promoted by the School of Transitions. Benoit Feuillu, and Chantal Chantelle, will share their strategic hypothesis, based on direct action, the plural composition of movements and the popular self -organization that vertebrates this new movement.
