David Selvas will direct María Pujalte, Francesca Piñón and Cristina Plazas in ‘Les Bárbares’

From the 4th of February it arrives at the Teatre Borràs in Barcelona The Barbariansthe last work of the playwright Lucía Carballalunder the direction of David Selvas. This tragicomedy, starring María Pujalte, Cristina Plazas, Francesca Piñon i Berta Gratacósoffers an honest and profound portrait of the generation of women who broke the mold during a time when feminism was beginning to make its way.

The work focuses on the story of Carmen, Susi and Encarna, three friends who, at the age of 65, meet again in a hotel called, ironically, Juventud. But this meeting is not accidental: it responds to the last will of Bárbara, a woman thirty years younger than them, whom they sponsored and loved in different ways. Bárbara’s premature death acts as a trigger for an exercise in collective memory and introspection. Through memories, conversations and contradictions, their internal struggles about work, motherhood and feminism are revealed, while the value of their friendship is tested.

An intergenerational reflection

The Barbarians it is not only the story of women educated in full Francoism, who experienced maturity during the Transition, but also a look at the legacy they left for new generations. The piece unravels the frustrations, resignations and longings of women who built a feminism written in the dark and often silent. An essential proposal that puts on the table the uncomfortable but necessary questions about how we got here and what remains to be achieved.

A dramatic comedy that promises to excite, shake consciences and vindicate those brave women who, without making a sound, paved the way. The show will arrive on February 4 at the Borràs Theater and tickets are already on sale.
