Next Thursday, January 30, at 8.30 pm, a concert in tribute to the Mexican pianist Alicia Muñiz will take place in the Llevant room of the Library of Catalonia.
The French Chapel of Barcelona, directed by Cecilia Velázquez, will participate; the singers Karen Gardeazábal (soprano) and Augusto García (bass); the pianists Pia Zanca and Carlos Reyes, and the set of Mexican chapel strings. The repertoire will be focused on Mexico and musicians near the teacher Alicia Muñiz, such as Rodolfo Halffter and Faustino Velázquez. It will also include pieces by the composer and musicologist Miquel Querol i Gavaldà (1912 – 2022), who was the husband of Muñiz.
Alicia Muñiz is an iconic figure in music in Mexico, where she has been a professor at the National Conservatory and a pioneer in the research of ancient music.
It is also closely linked to Catalonia, where it currently resides. After the death of his husband, he donated to the Library of Catalonia of the Miquel Querol i Gavaldà collection, following the will expressed by Master Querol. He has recently started donating his personal fund.
Entry is free with limited capacity.
