Historical and linguistic importance of the document
The Greuges of Caboet (1105) is a legal text in which Mr. Guitard Isarn – a member of the Feudal Family of the Caboet, originally from the Cabó Valley (Alt Urgell) – claims, through an inventory of complaints, the repair of the offenses and the damage that their vassals have inflicted.
The document was found by the academician Joaquim Miret i Sans in 1905 in the old Collegiate Church of Organyà (Alt Urgell), along with approximately 500 parchments, including the well -known ones. Homilies. All of them They were donated to the Institut d’Estudis Catalans in 1907 and became part of the archive of documents that were being met in the Library of Catalonia.
The parchment of Caboet’s grievances is not dated or signed. Miret i Sans, in a first study, places the writing between 1080 and 1095, which makes it the oldest text written in Catalan.
Recent research has provided more information on the date and authorship of the text. Thus, in 2020, the medievalist Josep Maria Salrach shows that the parchment would have been written between November 1105 and March 1106. And in 2021, the paleographers Jesus Alturo and Tania Araix discover the identity of the author, the Ramon Sottsiaca, a clergyman who is linked to the lords of Caboet.
In order to publicize the historical and linguistic importance of the document, the Association of Friends of the Valley of Caboet, promotes the celebration in 2025 of a series of activities with the collaboration of institutions of academic and cultural fields such as the Library of Catalonia, the Institut d’Estudis Catalans, the Rovira i Virgili University, the Institute of Regional Studies of the Alt Urgell, the Institut d’Estudis de
