Carlos Mena and Tiento Nuovo
Bach before Bach.
It is well known that among the children of Johann Sebastian Bach, there were four of them who devoted themselves to composition. But the works of some of his ancestors, such as Johann Christoph Bach (cousin of Johann Sebastian’s father) or his brother, Johann Michael Bach, father of Maria Barbara, who would be the first wife of the author of the Goldberg Variations.
The concert presented by Basque countertenor Carlos Mena with the Tiento Nuovo ensemble directed by Ignacio Prego will allow us to learn about works by two Bachs before the “great” Bach, but also musical repertoire from the nearby Germanic context: musicians such as Schmelzer and Biber (Austrians), Erlebach, Rosenmüller or Buxtehude will allow us to delve into the German musico-religious context of the second half of the 17th century.
