‘Between monsters’, a reflection on intra -family violence
The Akademia Theater welcomes until February 16 Between monsters company 42km directed by Israel Solà. The show, with theater thriller, reflects on the memory, the traumas and the meaning of the house as a space for security and identity.
Between monsters Starting from a potential buyer’s visit to a flat for sale that ends up becoming a trip to the protagonist’s past, where empty rooms are filled with memories and figures that force him to face a Children’s trauma. “What struck me most about this text was his poetic and disturbing tone, with Lorquian and Beckettian resonances,” says the director, Israel Solà. “It’s like falling through the Llodriguera de Alicia, where the first images bewilded, but they attract you until you want to discover the complete trencadís.”
A work to demystify and humanize
Between monsters It is a text that arose during confinement by Covid-19, when members of the company shared reflections on their own experiences with home and childhood. These encounters showed a painful truth: the house is not always a safe space. “The system educates us to believe that the family is indestructible and an unconditional refuge,” they say from 42km, “but for many people, it is the epicenter of violence that is perpetuated in silence.”
The play focuses on the need to talk about intra -family violence, a topic still too often taboo. “What is not called is the risk of becoming a vacuum, which does not leave,” reflects Solà. For this reason, the montage is committed to demystifying abusers: “They are not mythological beasts or monsters, they are people, and this humanization is necessary to understand and take responsibility for us as a society,” adds the company.
Montse Esteve, David Bagés, Georgina Latre and Rafa Delacroix They give life to characters who are both real and symbolic projections of the protagonist’s subconscious. “These ‘monsters’ are voices, fears and memories that coexist inside us as deformed images of a trencadís,” says Solà. Despite dealing with complex topics such as vicarious violence and abuse, the play knows how to find moments of humor and hope. “It’s a work on pain, yes, but also about the possibility of transforming it. Poetic situations and characters help us explain the inexplicable, “says Latre.
