After moving with his first novel En la tierra somos fugazmente grandiosos, Ocean Voung leaves us out of place with his poetry collection, El tiempo es la madre, where he deepens, from an even more painful and intimate side, the grieving the loss of his mother. Her poetry strips and cradles, and is charged with a deep sense of compassion and forgiveness that can only be felt by a mother who did what she could with what she had. A mother traumatized by a war. An inherited trauma. And the ability to love despite. Vuong transits this time with tender and agonizing poetic images. As a way to heal a wound, which never really goes away, just like the existence of a mother cannot. Sometimes the only way to face the pain is to recognize all its edges; the traumas within the family, the emotional deficiencies, the violence inherited from a war… A kind of relief confronted with the pain. Ocean Voung was born in Ho Chi Minh City in 1988 and immigrated to the US with his family after being in a refugee camp in the Philippines. Vuong, Ocean. Time is the mother.
