The International Forum of Translators of Catalan Literature will be a space designed for you, translators of Catalan literature into other languages, with the aim of promotingprofessional exchange and dialogue with authors, editors and Catalan literary agents and cultural mediators but, above all, because you get to know each other!
We invite you to participate in an environment that will promote the critical reflection about the literary translation from Catalan to other languages and its international projection, and which at the same time it wants to offer you practical tools and up-to-date knowledge for your continuing education: literary and publishing trends, support programs, available resources and professional best practices.
The Forum also aims to contribute to giving visibility and recognition to your work as key figures in the internationalization of Catalan literature, claiming your essential role as prescribers.
To be able to register in the Forum, you must fulfill these two indispensable requirements:
- to have published, at least, one work in translation of Catalan literaturein printed book format and with commercial distribution in bookstores.
- Since the vehicular language of the forum will be Catalan, it is necessary that you have a good one understanding oral of the Catalan language.
In addition, in addition, since places are limited, we have established a admission criteria which will help us to make a choice, if necessary, of the people who will be able to attend the Forum. They are the following:
- Professional trajectory and training of the translator. (15 points)
- Candidates from translators fromlinguistic areas considered strategic by the Ramon Llull Institute, like now Nordic countries, China or Arab countries. (10 points)
- Those will be prioritized languages in which there is one lack of translators of Catalan and those in which it is necessary to promote it generational relief. (10 points)
- Special consideration will be given to applications from translators with prescription capacity and incidence in its literary system, either through publication in reference publishers, criticism, teaching or cultural mediation. (10 points)
- Special consideration will be given to applications from translators specializing in the following literary genres: theater and poetry. (5 points)
Maximum score that can be achieved: 50 points
Documentation to be provided:
- Translator’s CV (criterion a)
- Letter of motivation to attend the Forum. It must include, if relevant, the description of the candidate’s prescription capacity and impact (criterion d).
Practical data
The Ramon Llull Institute will cover the costs of participating in the program.
For those translators coming from outside Catalonia, it is planned to cover theaccommodation and travel until Barcelona.
