The commitment to sustainability is reinforced in the territory with workshops and talks for all ages – Ateneu

This end of the year, several municipalities in the Baix Llobregat have hosted participatory and informative activities to bring sustainability closer to the public. Family workshops, talks on energy efficiency and spaces for reflection have been the protagonists of a cycle that puts environmental education at the center, while connecting knowledge with everyday action.

Family learning: science, awareness and the environment

Two of the most outstanding proposals have been the family workshops organized by La Rachola SCCL and the libraries and civic centers of the territory. At the Library La Ginesta de Beguesfamilies with children from the age of 5 could build a rain gauge and a homemade terrarium to understand the water cycle and observe meteorological phenomena in a small microclimate. The aim: to awaken scientific curiosity and promote ecological awareness from a young age.

In the same line, al CCC of Olesa de Montserrat a dynamic workshop was held to reflect on climate change and its causes. In groups, they worked on concepts such as environmental impact, the ecological footprint and everyday actions that can contribute to reversing the situation, with a playful and cooperative approach.

Energy saving and comfort: a sustainable view of housing

For adult audiences, several talks on energy efficiency and building renovation were scheduled. At the Ramon Fernández Library Jurado de Castelldefels and al Casal Cívic d’Olesa of Montserratspecialists explained ways to reduce the electricity bill and improve home comfort.

These sessions have made it possible to better understand how homes work energetically and what options we have as citizens to promote real improvements: from simple interventions to energy renovations with sustainability and savings criteria.

A collective work to grow ecosocial awareness

All these activities have been organized with the aim of reaching different audiences and making the ecosocial transition also a collective experience. The impulse of La Rachola SCCLwith the collaboration of local libraries and facilities, and the support of the Ateneu Cooperatiu del Baix Llobregat and the Department of Business and Labor of the Generalitat de Catalunya, has made it possible to bring this content to different municipalities in the territory.

The commitment to sustainability involves generating accessible, understandable and practical tools. And this cycle of activities is an example: sustainability starts with information, but is activated with everyone’s involvement.
