We make an insect hotel in Cervelló – Athenaeum
On October 17, 2025, the Municipal Library of Cervelló will host a special workshop for families who want to take the first step towards a more sustainable lifestyle. Under the title “Let’s make an insect hotel”, this activity proposes an educational and playful experience to bring biodiversity at home and raise awareness of the importance of insects in ecosystems.
The workshop is part of the cycle “Family Workshops to get into the world of sustainability”, an initiative promoted by the Ateneu Cooperativa del Baix Llobregat and organized by the Raho Cooperativa Architecture and the World Bee. The aim is to raise awareness among families about environmental issues, through participatory activities that combine scientific knowledge with artisanal practice.
A proposal to know, build and take home
Insect hotels are small structures designed to give refuge to beneficial species such as solitary bees, ladybugs or butterflies. In addition to promoting biodiversity, they help improve the health of gardens and domestic orchards, as these insects pollinate plants and help control pests.
During the workshop, participants will build their own insect hotel with natural and recycled materials. In addition, they will learn what types of insects can accommodate, what its ecological function is and how to properly place the hotel to encourage its use. The highlight is that each family will be able to take home their insect hotel and continue learning in their immediate environment.
Free activity with limited places
The activity is free, but it has limited places to guarantee a personalized and safe experience. The workshop is designed for children from 5 years oldaccompanied by an adult. There will be a maximum of 15 participating families (15 adults + 15 children).

Cooperativism and local ecology
This activity is an example of how sustainability, education and social and solidarity economics (ESS) can go hand in hand. Both Raho and the Bee world work from the cooperative and proximity, developing proposals that value the relationship between nature, architecture and community.
From the Ateneu Cooperativa del Baix Llobregat, we continue to bet on environmental awareness spaces open to the citizenry, which strengthen the links between generations and promote new habits of consumption and relationship with the environment.
