Display "Invasive marine species"

Message of the exhibition: “The introduction of invasive species in the Mediterranean has become the second cause of loss of marine biodiversity, only surpassed by the degradation of habitats due to human action, according to the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (UICN).” “In the face of this alarming reality, the Maritime Museum of Barcelona and the Center for Advanced Studies of Blanes (CEAB-CSIC), present the exhibition Marine invasive species: the silent threat, which highlights the impact of these organisms on the marine ecosystems of the Mediterranean.” “What is an invasive species? And one introduced? What are the main introductory routes of this organisms in the Mediterranean? What are its effects on marine ecosystems and/or economic activity? How does climate change affect, and more specifically the warming of the waters? What measures can be taken to mitigate this threat and preserve marine biodiversity? The exhibition answers these and other crucial questions to understand the challenge that invasive species represent. ” This article on the cultural agenda has been updated on October 16, 2024, so in anticipation of possible subsequent modifications, we recommend contrasting the information with which it appears published on the website of the Maritime Museum of Barcelona.
