17/12 – 18.30h. “Contactes Sud” – 2nd edition. Country: Chile – Theme: “Global denialism”
Meeting: Wednesday, December 17, 2025 – 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Title: “Global denial” – Guest country: CHILE
Contacts South it is a space for pause and reflection around the problems of the South, related by Latin American creators who link their lives to Barcelona. Migrations that address both sides of the emotional spectrum, in a great network of affections that is woven every day. There are many kilometers that separate us, but also many emergencies that unite us.
We propose a trialogue from different disciplines of the arts and humanities, where we can analyze the present of the places we live in parallel.
The starting point of this gathering will be the photographic work of Claudia Poole.

The rise of the extreme right poses challenges to our understanding of what is the root or origin of this desire to impose a new order, which is not so new.
If we think about the pedagogical question, “Who am I, where do I come from and where am I going” we can infer that the first two questions have been erased and despised from our imagination, there is no time for that, life runs very fast and there is only time to think about where I am going and hopefully get there as soon as possible.
Acculturation processes are fundamentally based on the idea of forgetting the past in order to move on, causing a state inversely proportional to any healing. Therefore, as a society and immersed in pain, we go through milestones that generate traumas that are difficult to identify, because the generational transfers of affective information are denied to us. Denialism is part of this strategy and emerges from time to time, when those responsible for generating social unrest need to disconnect us from any vital impulse to connect with our forbidden and therefore hidden knowledge.
Both revolutionary struggles and identification with our ancestral cultures pose a threat to the status quo of power, in any of its expressions and in any part of the world.
Chile today is a scenario in which the practices of subjugation and erasure of the
memory are the clear and concise example of what is said when we talk about negationism. From the rejection of the proposal for a new constitution, preceded by a social outburst in which this subversive energy emerged, which tried to highlight the need to, first, stop to think and then propose a new text in which all the paradigms that live in this geographical place called Chile, composed of many territories grouped into one, could be reflected of being “on the wrong side of history”, as he did before in the 70s, and as he will do again and again. Dissent is not allowed. We must forget who we are, dehumanize ourselves to continue feeding power.
Isn’t it funny that certain words like terrorism, violence, freedom are back in vogue on political agendas? How can you put the new generations in context? How can we try to think or unlearn the linearity of time? How can we generate spaces and what would they be to get a look towards the periphery and stop looking at the center? How can we generate instances of personal healing in community? Will we manage to preserve our humanity?
Chile today, as yesterday, is prey to the same hegemonic discourse of the right who only want to cut rights, cause crises and generate a climate of unrest, in order to continue to perpetuate their economic power.
